Blue transfer-printed pitcher. Floral motif surrounds the inside and outside of the mouth and spout. The body is adorned by a floral and vine pattern surrounding two vignettes that depict the Massachusetts State House and New York City Hall.

One of many views related to the early United States and its history that appear in the online exhibit "Patriotic America." The view on this pitcher of this noteworthy building was also produced by Ridgway, Wood, Jackson, Rogers and Stevenson, as well as Stubbs here. The border in this series of American views by Stubbs is called "Spread Eagle Border." This building is surrounded by houses of famous men and itself was designed by the noted architect, Bullfinch in 1795. It was built on land once owned by John Hancock (signer of the Declaration of Independence).
