Description

A pair of leather and wool children's booties embellished with floral patterns worked in glass beads over a cut paper pattern, beaded fringe around vamp and ankle. Lining of pink polished cotton. Each bootie closes with a pink silk ribbon tie at the ankle.

Label

Made by an unidentified Haudenosaunee artist, likely Tuscarora. Haudenosaunee (Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora peoples comprising the historic Six Nations Confederacy or Iroquois League) artists combined their skills in traditional beading with contemporary fashions to create souvenirs for sale at Niagara Falls and other tourist destinations.Haudenosaunee beading is still done today. Creating these souvenirs helped perpetuate vital Native cultural heritage.
