Description

Trifold huswife/ needle case made from red fulled wool ground and lined with silk. Decorated on the exterior with elaborate three-dimensional floral designs made from opaque white, opaque blue and clear glass beads. The edges are fringed with beaded looping swags.

Label

Made by an unidentified Haudenosaunee artist, likely Tuscarora. Haudenosaunee (Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora peoples comprising the historic Six Nations Confederacy or Iroquois League) artists combined their skills in traditional beading with contemporary fashions to create souvenirs for sale at Niagara Falls and other tourist destinations.Haudenosaunee beading is still done today. Creating these souvenirs helped perpetuate vital Native cultural heritage.
