Description

This oval miniature portrait of Sarah H. (Jacobs) Tufts portrays her in a black dress with a v-neck and narrow white lace trim. Her dark hair is parted down the center and looped back behind her ears. She is smiling slightly and looking just to the viewer's right. Her arms are crossed in front of her. She wears a long gold chain around her neck held with a ruby-set gold slide at her breastbone and clipped to her bodice at one end. She is seated in a red-upholstered chair, with blue drapery visible behind her shoulders. The portrait is set in an elaborately pierced gilt frame.
