Jonathan Sayward's prominence called for him to entertain frequently. He needed appropriate accessories like this glass salver with jelly glasses, which dates from the middle of the eighteenth century and was used for a variety of sweets. This may well have been one of the pieces Sayward's granddaughter recalled when she remembered his tables both covered in as elegant and expensive a stile as any I ever have set atthe China Silver & Glass the best that could be purchased.
