Red, purple and yellow/beige striped iridescent silk; horizontal stripes; calash style with five cane hoops; single piped self-fabric ruffle at brim; gathered at center back; padded neck ruffle; two striped ribbon bows at top; same ribbon used as neck ties; lined with pink cotton cambric; padded with batting.

Handwritten paper note pinned to neck ruffle (see file): ""A hood that Aunt Louisa / Goddard used to wear when / she went to Mr. Parks' School / but she did not like it, - so / mother changed with her, gave / her hers & kept this. It must be / over 60 years old. Dec 7-1893"".
