Chippendale style. Lower chest rests on four ogee bracket feet with molded base; encloses four graduated drawers. Molded lip at top to receive upper chest enclosing five drawers in a two over three graduated arrangement. All rectangular with beaded edges. Central brass escutcheons flanked by two conforming brass plates with bail handles. Upper two drawers have single corresponding plate. Bonnet top has molded edges with central turned finial rests on fluted block with thin broken pediment.

Highlights of the furniture collection: From its pediment to its feet, this chest on chest evokes comparisons with the furniture of Newport. The design of the bracket feet and the use of bold moldings are characteristic of Newport. The very contours of the base, waist, and pediment moldings are virtually standard in Newport furniture, and the shape of the pediment, fluting of the plinths, and the use of a single finial are all seen on Newport pieces. The dovetails, like those on other Newport pieces are exceedingly fine. Although a well-made urban object, this one is of plain design, and inexpensive wood -- a less costly piece made for the 18th century buyer.
