This matching bodice (A) and skirt (B) are made from light brown taffeta. The bodice is basque style with a standing band collar, smocked and shirred front plastron panel covering a hook and eye closure at the center front. Long sleeves with turned back cuffs which show an inserted, smocked panel, self-piping around placket and cuffs. An attached peplum opens at the center front. The bodice is shaped with darts and lined with brown cotton twill. The matching skirt (B) has two overlapping panels draped across the front and drawn up at the sides. The panels are stitched in place under two bands of smocking. Pleats at back waist. The back is shaped with a pouf or bustle. The hem is finished with ruffles and the entire skirt is lined with brown cotton. A band of elastic is attached to the skirt lining approximately 10 inches from the hem. The lining ruffle is bound with brown wool tape.
