Description

Round ash splint basket with cover and a pair of hoop handles. The basket cover and opening is round, tapering to a square base. The body has two wide weavers near the rim and base, narrow weavers for the rest of the body. Some of the weavers are swabbed with indigo. The square base of the basket is plain weave. The basket body standards are alternating plain and indigo swabbed. The cover is thin weft "wicker"-type woven in alternating bands of plain and prussian blue-swabbed sections. The rims of basket and cover are both exterior splint, but the basket body interior rim is carved wood. Both are held in place with single lashing of ash splint. The handle has a yellow silk ribbon tied in place where the handle attaches to the body.
