Round open basket with turned wooden base (with concentric turning circles visible) and rattan/cane weavers, a so-called "Nantucket Lightship" basket. The rim hoops are pinned in place and secured with a double lashing of cane. Donor's history indicates that the basket was woven by Captain Thomas James on the South Shoal Lightship, which first anchored off Nantucket in 1856.
