The rectangular gray blackboard is mounted with a conforming sheet of printed and embossed paper showing a white heron standing on a branch. The ground and tree are printed in blues in Japanese style brushwork. Two printed off-white calender pages for November and December 1908 remain stitched to the backboard. It hangs from a ring paper tab at the top.
