Label on reverse, difficult to read: ""This bracket was placed in the Saugus Auctional [?] Fair in 1864 was drawn in a raffle by Mr. Alfred Mudge and kept in his possession til he presented to the Odd Fellow's Fair. Nov 1865. Let each person inscribe on the paper that it may be handed down authentic. Alfred Mudge, Charles C. Cole"" Another piece evidently placed between the bracket and the mount inscribed by ALC: ""April 4, 1960, Removed from back of 1939.587 with earlier paint found underneath, sand paint continues on the newer piece of wood and thus can't be original.""
