Description

Eagle finial (wings open, head turned to left); circular face with Arabic numbers; convex glass, gilt balls encircle frame; trapazoidal waist inset with thermometer scaled from "Extra Cold" to "Water Boils;" glass cover over thermometer has reverse painted border; pierced brass scrolls terminating with rosettes at either end flank the waist; circular base with carved acanthus pendant and covex glass cover, vignette of an allegorical figure identified as "Commerce" drawn through the ocean by sea horses, accompanied by attendant, putti, a cornucopia, an American flag and eagle, door frame decorated with gilt balls, entire exterior of clock is gilded.
