White, painted felt pith helmet with white chin strap. Small "dome" over ventilation hole on top. Brim has tan leather trim. Linen and red satin and leather linings. The white color is shoe polish.

Inscription

1) Handwritten in ink on lining: ""MAJOR ELDREDGE"" 2) Embossed with silver lettering: ""THE M.C. LILLEY & CO. MANUFACTURERS, COLUMBUS, OHIO."" The same words appear on the brass/gilt ring at dome.
