Description

"Boston Lincolnshire." River scene with large church in background. Eglomise matting and black molded frame. Note on back "On the river Witham: has a population of above 16,000. Its principal object of interest is the church of St. Botolph after which St. the town was named Botolph's town which has a lofty perpendicular tower known as Boston Stump, w/ an octagonal crown, New Englanders in 1857 built a chapel in this church in memory of th Revd. John Cotton who was vicar of the Church before he went to America in the 16tn century. There is some interesting ancient stained glass in the guild hall. There are other ancient buildings among them. Shod friars Hall w/ it's quaint timber walls is worth a visit. Boston in the Fen District. The meres and marshes of which have mostly been converted into pasture and arable lands.
