"Cherished Possessions": This lance-shaped curtain cornice is one of a set of three that adorn the walls above the windows in the formal parlor of James Rundlet's Portsmouth, New Hampshire, home. Although the original curtains that hung from this cornice do not survive, they were probably similar to ones published in fashionable English magazines-colorful drapery swags and curtain panels trimmed with elaborate tassels and fringe.
