Description

Desk cabinets with sliding doors. Originally the upper section to the large double desk in the study [1984.135.1]. According to Ise Gropius the desk was a product of the Bauhaus Carpentry Shop which was headed by Marcel Breuer in 1925. It was designed according to our request with filing cabinets and special lamps, produced by the Metal Workshop, to light up the typewriter from above. The upper section of cabinets with sliding doors was used at their house in Dessau [the desk was put against a wall]. When the desk was installed at the house in Lincoln, the upper section was removed so as not to obscure the window in the study.
