Description

Large double desk. Left side has four drawers to the left of the kneehole and a full height folio cupboard to the right. Small black painted shelf extends above desk at left end. The right side has four drawers to the left of the kneehole and three open shelves to the right. Drawers alternate color between black and maple. Three drawers have cylindrical black painted drawer pulls. The second drawer from the top has an escutcheon hole. The folio cupboard and open shelves are painted black. According to Ise Gropius the desk used to have an upper section of cabinets with sliding doors [1984.135.2] when it was used at their house in Dessau. The cabinets were taken off when the desk was installed in the Lincoln house so that they would not obscure the window in the study.
