Used in Cherished Possessions 2003-2005: In 1925, a year after graduating from the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer was invited back as master of the furniture workshop. His salary allowed him to purchase his first bicycle. Before long it occurred to him that the bike's handlebars were the ideal material for a new type of furniture. In tubular steel Breuer discovered the perfect material to express the goals of the modern movement. Of all Breuer's designs, the stool, which was soon expanded to a set of nesting tables, was his favorite. Its stripped-down functionalism and simple geometric form made it the essence of modern design.
