"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": Sara Norton was her father’s near-constant companion and the editor of his published letters. Shown here at age forty-six in stylish but understated black and gray attire and amethyst and pearl earrings, she might still have been in half-mourning for her father, who died in October 1908.
