From "A Family Collects: Paintings and Sculpture from the Codman House," Concord Museum, 1993-1994: Marble sculptures or plaster casts of well-known antique statuary were often found in the homes of Boston merchants in the Federal period. Richard Codman bought two pieces of sculpture from LeBrun. One was a copy of an antique marble of a hermaphrodite. The other was this work which was described as "a very beautiful bust of a young roman girl after a greek marble." It may be related to the Vestale Zingarella, an antique sculpture now in the Louvre in Paris.
