From "A Family Collects: Paintings and Sculpture from the Codman House," Concord Museum, 1993-1994: Paul Weber was born in Germany and came to America seven years before he painted this large landscape. With its sweeping vista towards the mountains, it is the type of painting celebrating native scenery and the American wilderness that was made popular by the better-known artists Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadt. This painting originally hung in the parlor of the Beacon Street home of James and Mary Bradlee, who owned many of the landscapes in this section.
