. 1 is hat of black velvet with small wired brim; brim turns up at back; black ostrich feathers circle entire hat; circular applique with extensions on left side; applique of black chenille, black wool, & black beads, stiffened with buckram; inside lined with 2 layers of rayon: 1 gathered with white & purple stripe selvage, 2nd ribbon drawstring, buckram; yellow threads at front inner lining. .2 & .3 are brass hatpins; round ends covered with black velvet, simulated pearl at center with small rhinestones; inserted one on each side of hat.
